Repertoire:
As always, a couple of new ones.
This time, we present “The Champ”, a rip roaring blues from Dizzy
Gillespie beefed up to big band size from it’s original sextet format.
As well we have “the Meaning of the Blues” by Bobby Troup (written for
his wife Julie london in 1956)
This was played by miles Davis with the Gil Evans orchestra on the
famous recording “miles Ahead”.

Curiously it’s not a blues in the sense of a 12 bar form, it takes 32
bars to make it’s statement, but it is “blue” in the sense of being
moody and the Gil Evans love of creeping dissonance is on display .

As well, we will feature recent “new” charts, some by Duke Ellington,
Gerry Mulligan, Count Basie and even a Schroder original “The Offering).
New in the sense that we’ve only recently started playing these
arrangements.

Food, wine and company available.
