Reminder Schroder’s Big Band is on at the Kelvin club on Tuesday 14/5

Hi all
a reminder that Schroder’s Big Band is playing at the Kelvin next week on Tuesday 14 May.

Set 1 7.30 pm
small band with Ken and the rhythm section

Set 2
9 pm
17 piece big band.

This gig will be dedicated to the memory of Nick Mulder, our friend and colleague, who has played trombone with us for many years.
Nick was an enthusiastic, vigorous trombonist as well as being an arranger, who played with many bands around Melbourne and his untimely passing was a shock to us all.

Ken has written a tribute piece simply titled “Blues for Nick”, something that Nick could conceivably have enjoyed to play himself, if he were still with us.
Nick was such a positive bloke that we hope it leaves you with a sense of what a fine fellow he was, so we can celebrate his life as well as mourn his loss.

Other works come from Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Gil Evans, Schroder and the Quincy Jones arrangement of “Walkin'”, supposedly penned by one Richard Carpenter; Ken will let you know what he has, with the aid of Google, discovered about this shadowy figure of dubious talent.

An evening with a serious theme, but we promise to let our hair down to honour Nick.

Food and wine available.
